About Lerna
Hello, I’m Lerna.
I am a dance educator, choreographer, researcher and writer, and for nearly three decades I have been deeply engaged with one central question: how can we learn through movement and the body?
My practice is rooted in creative dance and dance pedagogy. Over the years, I have developed and facilitated movement-based learning programmes with children, adults, educators and communities across a wide range of settings — from state schools and associations to community organisations, studios and public spaces.
Throughout this journey, I have been particularly interested in how creative dance can support creativity, confidence, curiosity and different ways of knowing and learning. Rather than approaching dance only as a set of skills to be taught, I see movement as a way of exploring, questioning, relating and making meaning.
This interest gradually led me more deeply into embodied learning — an area that has become one of the central threads of my teaching and research. Since 2015, I have been developing and facilitating professional learning and training programmes for educators and practitioners, exploring creative dance pedagogy, embodied approaches to learning, movement exploration and creative facilitation.
More recently, my work has expanded towards the relationship between dance, embodiment and ecology. Through my Master’s studies in Movement, Mind and Ecology and my subsequent practice, ecological thinking has become increasingly inseparable from the way I understand movement and learning. Since 2024, I have been developing and facilitating practices that bring creative dance into dialogue with ecosomatics, ecological relationships, more-than-human perspectives and embodied ways of encountering the living world.
Today, these different strands of my practice come together in my work: creative dance, embodied learning, ecological thinking and movement pedagogy.
I am interested not only in what we can learn about the world through dance, but in what becomes possible when we learn with and through the moving body — in relationship with other bodies, places, materials and more-than-human life.

Ecology-Based Creative Dance: Embodied Practice & Pedagogy
A 9-Month Online Professional Development Programme
Beginning in October 2026, Lerna’s new online programme brings together creative dance pedagogy, embodied learning, ecology and ecosomatics, more-than-human movement, movement exploration and ecological approaches to teaching.
Designed for dance artists, educators and facilitators, the programme moves between personal embodied experience, ecological inquiry and pedagogical practice.
Across nine monthly sessions, participants will explore space, time, materiality, sensing, more-than-human movement, ecological relationships, ecojustice and creative facilitation, before bringing these strands together to develop their own ecology-based movement practice.
- Monthly live online sessions · 3 hours · Recordings available
- Programme begins: 25 October 2026
